Meghan's Legacy- The Beginning
Meghan's legacy is about her life, not her death.
We were not given a birth certificate for Meghan, because according to the Department of Health, she did not live. One breath, one simple heartbeat, separates the definition of life from birth.
Meghan lived. She lived for her father and mother those short 9 months. She kicked, she rolled, she woke and she slept. She hiccuped, and liked to kick her father at 4 am. She liked Taco Bell and cherry tomatoes, and did not like fruit first thing in the morning. She was anticipated with joy, and she was and forever will be missed with heartache.
New York State currently has, and has had, a legislative bill pending to give parents of stillborn children the opportunity to file for a Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth (CBRS). This would recognize the process that we went through to deliver her into this world peacefully sleeping, and would record her name forever as having existed.
Whitney and Craig Downey are campaigning and lobbying for this bill now, and hoping and praying that it will be passed. Meghan's life was short but vital, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that her legacy lives on.
